ENTER THE EAR DRAGON (Genius LOCO series 01)
2019-2020

Enter the Ear Dragon is a song, a real ear worm you can't get out of your head. There's no cure, no way to get rid of it.
Once you've heard it the song slowly just drives you mad. And before you know it you've found yourself behind gates of an institution.
And this time – this time it's for good...

Enter the Ear Dragon started orinally as a song, but the end result turned out to be a series of paintings instead. They tell a story about my "musical madness" that started from a Manchester club Hacienda in the late 80's and a book called One Love Story about a Madchester band The Stone Roses. Being inspired by all this happening at the time I too started doing music in the Nineties – and been signing and writing lyrics since. Lately I've been writing solo material and singing in a band called The Execution of Music.

KIRJASALO 3D
2016-

All Bright Tampere Television (a present from the Kirjasalo Republic / lahja Kirjasalon Tasavallalta)
Black and white autostereoscopic 3D video, sculpture (parallel universe TV) from wood and offset print plates, flowers and a pot, 2016

There used to exist a small independent country between Finland and Russia called the Republic of Kirjasalo (Finnish: Kirjasalon tasavalta). The tiny state also known as The Republic of North Ingria (Finnish: Pohjois-Inkerin tasavalta) had seceded from Bolshevist Russia after the October Revolution. The Ingrians wanted to be a part of the Republic of Finland and that was what was promised to them by the Finns when they started the peace negotiations with Russia in Tartu 1920. But the Finns let the Ingrians down and in the final Peace Treaty of Tartu the short-lived Republic ceased to exist.

This is where my art project steps in… What if the Finns and the Russians would have have given a proper independence to the small village between their borders? What if that would have been the trigger, like a flap of a butterfly's wing in the Amazon, that causes the whole known history to change its course?
In my art project the Reds (or communists) win in Finland and the White Tsarist forces take over in Russia.

In this parallel universe 2016 Taking part in the World of Tango Festival Tampere contemporary art exhibition curated by
Giovanna Esposito Yussif with the parallel universe history sculpture and video installation

KINOBOX OBSCURA - 3D camera obscura BOAT
2016

3D camera obscura boat

The artists pedal the paddle wheel catamaran and give the audience boat rides for 2-3 people at a time. For the first time ever people will have a chance to see an upside-down "3D movie" on waters. The world outside the boat cabin is seen on a silver screen in 3D when wearing RealD 3D-glasses. The boat is equipped with custom-cut lenses (two lenses, one for eah eye) and circular polarized lters. The viewers can change the image focus by adjusting the lenses by two handles.

The boat has been built using recycled materials wherever possible. The deck is made out of old water hoses from Helsinki Fire Department, the cabin is covered with silverish metal sheets from an offset printing house and the door handles have been modified from old Lapinlahti hospital bed railings. And like all Kinobox Obscura artworks also the 3D camera obscura boat works without any electricity.

Measures: width 310 cm, length 540 cm.
The pontons are turned under the deck during transport to fit onto our KO trailer.

The building of the 3D camera obscura boat was funded by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland and Kone Foundation grants.
Baltic Lifejackets Sweden provides lifejackets in all sizes to secure safe 3D voyages.

KINOBOX OBSCURA - CASA 3D
2014

KO Casa 3D (3D camera obscura house)

The house was erected using recycled Mexican and US movie reel transport cases nowadays obsolete because of the digitalisation of movie theatres. The 3D camera obscura house was built for "Parallax - Geographical Resonances" – an exhibition on Finnish contemporary art – in Laboratorio Arte Alameda, Mexico City 30 April 2014 - 6 July 2014. After the exhibition the Laboratorio Arte Alameda museum wanted the house be kept on its place at the entrance of the museum until it was finally removed the first of December 2014.

The artwork was made possible by the grants from The Finnish Cultural Foundation and Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
